PRIVACY PROTOCOL
8BitLab respects your privacy the same way we respect circuit tolerances — precisely and without shortcuts. This document explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the control you have over it. We don't sell your data. We never will.
WHAT WE COLLECT
When you interact with 8BitLab — browsing our store, placing an order, or contacting support — we collect the minimum data necessary to serve you.
Account & Order Data
- Full name, email address, shipping and billing address
- Phone number (for delivery coordination only)
- Order history, product preferences, and warranty registrations
- Payment method type (card last 4 digits only — full card data never stored)
Device & Usage Data
- IP address, browser type, operating system
- Pages visited, time on site, referral source
- Crash reports or error logs from our web interface
Our hardware products (the Creator PowerBank with built-in SSD and the ChromaScan color scanner) operate fully locally. No data from your SSD, scanned colors, or device activity is transmitted to 8BitLab servers unless you explicitly initiate a sync or support session.
HOW WE USE IT
Every byte of data we collect has a defined purpose. We do not use your data for profiling, behavioral advertising, or speculative analytics.
- Process and fulfil your orders, including shipping and tracking
- Send transactional emails: order confirmation, shipping updates, warranty info
- Provide customer support and resolve disputes
- Improve our website and product experience based on aggregated, anonymized behavior
- Comply with legal obligations (tax records, consumer protection law)
- Detect and prevent fraud or unauthorized transactions
DATA SHARING
We only share your data with third parties that are essential to operating our business — and we hold them to strict data handling standards.
Fulfillment & Shipping
Your name and address are shared with our logistics partners solely to deliver your order. They are not permitted to use this data for any other purpose.
Payment Processing
Payments are handled by PCI-DSS compliant processors. 8BitLab never stores full card details. The processor receives only what is necessary to complete a transaction.
Analytics
We may use anonymized, aggregated analytics to understand site performance. No personally identifiable information is included in these reports.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose data when required by Egyptian law, court order, or other lawful authority. We will notify you of such requests where legally permitted to do so.
YOUR DEVICES
8BitLab products are engineered with privacy as a hardware constraint, not an afterthought.
- The built-in SSD is a local storage device — your files never leave the hardware unless you choose to transfer them
- No telemetry, usage tracking, or cloud sync is enabled by default
- The device does not phone home, broadcast location, or require account registration to function
- Color scanning, hex code generation, and paint mixing calculations happen on-device
- The "nearest paint shop" feature uses your approximate location only at the moment of query, with your permission — this is not stored or logged by 8BitLab
- Scan history is stored locally on the device only
- Any smart features operate on your local network only unless explicitly configured otherwise
- Firmware updates are delivered over secure, verified channels
COOKIES
We use a minimal set of cookies required to operate the store. No third-party advertising cookies are placed on your device.
- Session cookies — keep you logged in during a shopping session (expires when browser closes)
- Cart cookies — remembers items in your cart between visits (expires 7 days)
- Analytics cookies — anonymized traffic data with no personal identifiers (opt-out available)
You can clear or block cookies via your browser settings at any time. Essential store functions may be affected if session cookies are blocked.
DATA RETENTION
We keep your data only as long as necessary for its stated purpose or as required by law.
- Order records: 5 years (tax and consumer protection compliance)
- Account data: retained while your account is active, deleted within 30 days of account closure request
- Support conversations: 12 months after resolution
- Session and analytics data: anonymized after 90 days
- Warranty registrations: duration of the warranty period + 1 year
YOUR RIGHTS
You have full rights over your personal data. We make it easy to exercise them without bureaucratic resistance.
- Access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion — request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Objection — object to certain processing activities
- Restriction — request we limit how we process your data while a dispute is resolved
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@8bitlab.org. We will respond within 14 days.
SECURITY
We implement technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk profile of the data we handle.
- HTTPS/TLS encryption on all data in transit
- Encrypted storage for sensitive customer records
- Access controls — only staff who need data to perform their job can access it
- Regular security reviews and dependency audits
- No full payment card data ever stored on our servers
In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and relevant authorities within 72 hours of becoming aware, as required by applicable law.
